Open letter to Guari Bhide, her parents, police and all.

Article triggered by the Guari Bhide incident ( girl abusing police in the police station after meeting with an accident while she was driving drunk)

When I was kid my dad often narrated an incident of his young days in Parel. It was about how people had respect for the police being the true crime controllers. How criminals, local goondas were actually terrified even when a lone constable was on a patrol. They never thought of overpowering him individually because they knew they could never overpower his authority.
When I was growing I remember the Thane Police Commissioner then Mr. J.Ribiero tackle the hooligans in a raid personally led by him. In the recent past we have seen the Mumbai Police Commissioner Mr. Shivanandan crack the backbone of the underworld. Constable Ombale sacrifice his life while nabbing Kasab.

So what has suddenly happened now !!? Why the police has become so weak that an idiot looking, crime committed young girl can be abusive  and create ruckus in a police station, challenge their authority…AND NEXT DAY GET AWAY WITH A BAIL……

Reason 1.The feminists, the activists to protect the women’s rights have a clear message of having mis-empowered the immature young lot. If they disagree then …..Think about this. Don’t you think their organisation should come out in support of the police in such cases  as vehemently, as vociferous, as loudly as you do while you support the victim against them. That way they can have a better standing and credibility among the police and the general public fraternity as well. Still do it ….release a press note. 

Reason 2.So many like me must be reading this and fuming inside …..isn’t it ? Think about this. Just pick up a pen and write down your thoughts …don’t let this provocation die inside ….make it positive …give out your opinion …..see remember ….information has got us a new governance. Also a public referendum can change the course of a nation ….we all witnessed the Brexit. Each opinion is powerful. How can you tolerate that girl’s behaviour …..I only hope that she was brought to her senses in a fitting manner. I also hope she by this time realises that her parenting and parents are going to be criticised for her act and for the disgrace she’s got them into….she better apologises on her generation’s behalf that would bring some comfort to most of us and them too.

Reason 3.The police have lost its mettle. The changing times need to revamp their functioning. On road especially they need to differentiate between what is an irregularity and illegal. You cannot treat someone who inadvertently jumps a signal and one who rough drives in the same manner. It is this understanding or the lack of it ….that has devalued your authority. You seem to be more interested in collecting your fee for the (not) conducted crime than curbing it. In such case I too know it’s only negotiation and not punishment. Sir please get your reputation back. That way you as well as we would not have to witness shameless characters like Gauri Bhide. 
We respect you for your incessant service during all the public holidays, rainy days, sunny days and sympathise your working conditions too …..do not think we are insensitive.

I only wish that this article reaches to those who it is intended to. But nevertheless the thought has to be taken ahead by some of you. Join in. Write.
